　　本句共48词，句子相对较长，句中只有一处标点隔开，导致整个句子结构较复杂。句子比较复杂是因为句子中包含了that引导的定语从句，定语从句中又嵌套一个宾语从句，宾语从句中又嵌套了两个定语从句，出现了从句多层嵌套的情况;此外后两个定语从句是通过一个比较结构连接，所以导致了整个句子结构相当复杂。

　　根据断句原则中的标点，可将句子整体断为2部分：

　　1. 句子主干：I came to recognize various signs of a bad paper

　　2. 同位语：the kind of paper that purports to show that people who eat more than one kilo of broccoli a week were 1.17 times more likely than those who eat less to suffer late in life from pernicious anaemia.

　　根据断句原则中的连词，可将句子2整体断为3部分

　　3. 同位语主干：the kind of paper

　　4. 同位语的定语从句修饰：that purports to show......

　　5. 定语从句中嵌套的宾语从句：that people ......were 1.17 times more likely than those ....... to suffer late in life from pernicious anaemia
