　　Direction of public opinion

　　On Feb 19, President Xi Jinping presided over a symposium stressing the Party media’s responsibility to guide the public opinion after visiting People’s Daily, Xinhua News Agency and China Central Television. Xi said that Party’s media should set the direction of public opinion, serve the county’s overall interests, unite the general public and connect China to the world. Xi also showed interest in the emerging new media and called for media innovation.

　　2月19日，国家主席在新华社、人民日报、中央电视台调研后，主持召开党的新闻舆论工作座谈会并发表重要讲话，强调了党媒在引导舆论导向上的重要责任。指出，党媒要为公众舆论建立正确方向，以国家整体利益为工作中心，团结群众，加强中国与世界的联系。同时对新兴媒体表现出了浓厚兴趣，号召实现新媒体创新。

　　马上学：Public opinion是指“舆论”，“公众意见”。而在政治选举中使用的public opinion poll往往指民意调查，类似表达还有public opinion studies.
